Freeing Venus

Birthed from a drive to bring wholesome living with groovy vibes to everyone. Freeing Venus is based on the Surf Coast of Australia and artistically create beautifully handmade traditional greek style woollen slippers which are bursting with colour, fun and brilliance! After we put pen to pad, our hand drawn designs are then made from high quality machine embroidery.

We are a family-run small business who is excited to bring these incredible slippers to Australia and beyond!

We value the fact our slippers are made from natural undyed sheep wool making them breathable and comfortable. There are minor vibrant coloured acrylic finishings adding to the fun of the slipper but the internal slipper is a luscious OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 fluffy natural wool. We've made it our mission to have natural fibres where possible, including in the pom pom. There is a foam interlay between the suede leather inner wool to add extra comfort. The slipper base is flexible mimicking a barefoot style of shoe - moving and shaping with your foot - which we LOVE!

Our core values are seen throughout our slippers - natural fabric, comfort, vibrant and full of life - style meets wholesome living!

You can care about your health and the environment while looking amazing and feeling great at the one step at a time! 😉

Traditional Greek slipper history

Our fun, vibrant, bold and cosy slippers stem from a traditional Greek style known as Chuni or Tsarouchia. Their origins include Greek folklore and traditional, functional footwear. This style is handcrafted in Greece, particularly from areas like the Peloponnese, using sheep's wool and traditionally featuring a prominent pom-pom.

The originators are Tsarouchia, directly inspired by traditional leather shoes worn by Greek freedom fighters during the War of Independence. The pom-pom was used to hide small blades or tools for the warriors and also protect against moisture.

Today, the traditional Tsarouchia are worn by the Presidential Guards in Athens!
